Melbourne Dynamo 4-0 Baobab United

The lads progressed to the second round of the Derbyshire cup, after a strong second-half display took care of Step 8 side Boabab United.

Back in action after a weeks break due to no fixture, the team lined up with Walmsley coming in at right back, Supple back in to midfield, Muir in at CAM and Bickerton on the right wing. Moore, Peverley and Smith were all restored to the bench. Withers and Dawson unavailable.

A slow even start to the game meant a lack of tempo from either side. Dynamo, whilst in control, lacked any real penetration in front of goal. The final pass was just out, or the wrong option taken. The visitors had the odd passage of play, but nothing to notably trouble Cox. All-square at half-time and the message was to go and get an early goal.

The lads duely listened, as Jones’ cross found Nkrumah, who got in front off the away defender to finish well. It was two 5 minutes later, as Supple, who was having a good game, battled in the inside right position and let fly with a left foot shot into the top corner. 2-0 and now firmly with one foot in the next round.

All 5 subs were introduced as Hughes, Smith, Peverley, Moore and Griffiths replaced Brown, Trivett, Muir, Goodband and Nkrumah. With 10 minutes to go, Bickerton was brought down inside the area and a penalty was awarded. Griffiths stepped-up but it was saved low to the left by the away keeper. Not to be out-done, Griffiths made amends 2 minutes later, as the ball was worked well down the right between Bickerton and Peverley and the latter squared for Griffiths to fire home.

There was still time for a fourth, as Smith played Griffiths through on goal and he expertly chipped over the keeper for 4-0.

Job done and into the hat for the Second Round.
